The Oregon Secretary of State Civics Toolkit has a unique Oregon-centric focus. For your convenience, we have compliled a list of sites offering lesson materials focusing on women and suffrage as well as state and national civics. We welcome your suggestions for additions to this list.

Oregon Women: Making a Difference

Commemorating the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Oregon in 2012, the Center for Women, Politics & Policy (CWPP) has developed a Women’s Leadership 6-12 curriculum, consisting of four 50-minute lessons and a culminating project where students will interview women in their community.

Civics 101

The League of Women Voters of Oregon offers civics curricula, mock elections, and instructional games.

Center for Civic Education

The Center fo Civic Education offers civics lesson plans for K-12 with special lessons for Constitution Day and Black History Month. As an extra bonus, take the daily civics quiz and sign up for the 60-second-podcast.

America's Legislators Back to School Program

The America's Legislators Back to School Program is an annual nation-wide event that "kicks off" the third week of September and runs through the school year. NCSL offers publication and video resource materials for high school, middle/junior high school and elementary school students to be used by state legislators visiting classrooms in conjunction with the program.

iCivics

The newly updated iCivics site offers in-depth lesson plans that are searchable by state, grade level, and educational standard to locate specific lessons. Check out the online games targetting younger scholar.

By the People: Election 2004 PBS

The By the People lesson plans are designed to tie to state and national standards for civics, history, math, and language arts. Find such topics as political cartoons, polling, debating and great speeches, and campaign finance. Separate lessons for primary and secondary school students.

For the Fun of It

The Living Room Candidate: Presidential Campaign Commercials 1952-2008

From the Museum of the Moving Image, the Living Room Candidate lessons integrate video and allow students to create their own presidential campaign ads using AdMaker. Lessons have been designed for use by high school teachers and students.

Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids

Benjamin Franklin teaches civics lessons. Choose an age, K-12, to find age-appropriate lessons. Lessons are designed for online use.

Classroom Law Project: Project Citizen

Project Citizen, a program co-sponsored by the Center for Civic Education, is a unique curriculum for upper elementary, middle and high school students, designed to promote responsible participation in local and state government.
