Occupation: Community Activist

Occupational Background: In 1994 Woody was instrumental in the development, N.E. Portland’s first African-American treatment service Inside outside People was established on 13th and Alberta. In 2004, Woody ran for the office of City Commissioner. He was a member of the Youth Gang Taskforce, the Albina Ministerial Alliance, the Al Sharpton Action Network, the N.A.A.C.P, Youth chair of the N.J.O.F. And the Solutions Committee of Occupy Portland. Currently Mr. Broadnax is Portland’s chief advocate for recognizing June 19th as Freedom Day, an unpaid holiday celebrating the emancipation proclamation of 1865. Woody is a driving force for the Juneteenth movement. He has dedicated his life toward improving youth education, ending gang violence, treating drug addiction, and preventing criminal recidivism
