Occupation: Judge, Multnomah County Circuit Court, Department No. 18.

Occupational Background: Circuit Judge Pro Tem 2004-2007; Attorney and Chief Attorney Metropolitan Public Defender, 1989-2004; Law Clerk, Oregon Court of Appeals, 1987-1989. From the age of 16 until I graduated from law school, I worked in a number of Jobs, including driving a bread truck, factory work and restaurant work.

Educational Background: B.A., Binghamton University, 1982. J.D., University of Oregon, 1987.

Prior Governmental Experience: Circuit Judge, 2007 to present; Circuit Judge Pro Tem 2004 – 2007. I have served on many state law committees, and currently serve on the Oregon Uniform Civil Jury Instruction Committee.

JUDGE RYAN IS EXPERIENCED AND HARD WORKING

Judge Ryan has worked in our justice system for over 20 years. As a lawyer, he was in court constantly and tried over 100 trials. He served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Lewis and Clark Law School. He has worked as a judge for over 4 years, hearing a large docket of diverse civil and criminal cases. Judge Ryan is committed to fair and impartial justice for all.

Judge Ryan is involved in many community and legal activities. He speaks to community groups about our court system, and moderates DUII victim impact panels, where persons charged with drunk driving learn from the victims of drunk driving.

JUDGE RYAN IS FAIR AND FIRM

Judge Ryan believes that those convicted of crimes must be held responsible for their crimes and to any victims of those crimes. Judge Ryan listens carefully to all who appear before him and treats all with courtesy and respect.
