I've worked on Boards that have been successful in reorganizing their business models to better position their organizations for the future. Through my work with the Brookings-Harbor School Board, the facilities were upgraded with new pitched roofs, equipment was replaced and maintenance schedules mandated, substantial cash reserves were put in budgets for emergencies, a bus fleet replacement schedule was established, a new scholarship foundation for graduates of the school system was established, and plans for the future developed. When I served on the CCEC Board, we reformed its business model so that a leaner and better-equipped company, unrestrained by under-performing subsidiary companies, could prosper in the future. We upgraded and replaced electrical equipment to ensure safety and efficiency and worked toward completing the transmission line rebuild to the Brookings-Harbor area. In each of these cases, we were responsible for multi-million dollar budgets, large workforces, and guiding organizations in meeting the needs of their customers.
As Your County Commissioner, I will work to protect the jobs we have and encourage more jobs while promoting responsible county spending on community services. I will strive to promote a business-friendly environment in Curry County that will encourage more businesses to locate here and employ more of our people. I will work toward an affordable solution for funding public safety. I firmly believe that working together, as boards and with the people living in Curry County, we can find solutions to our challenges.
