Occupation: Undersheriff/ Acting Sheriff - Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Occupational Background: From 1974 through 1985, I worked as a farmhand for local farmers. In 1985, I joined the U.S. Army. I was Honorably Discharged from the 2nd Ranger Battalion in Ft. Lewis, WA in 1986. March, 1986 through May, 1986, I worked in Plant 4 at Bright Wood Corporation. May 1986 I became a Marine Deputy for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. I have served in every division over the last 24 years including: 5 months as a Marine Deputy, 2 years as a Corrections Deputy, 10 years as a Patrol Deputy, 7 years as a Patrol Sergeant, 1 year as a Lieutenant for Drug Enforcement, 6 years as Undersheriff and Acting Sheriff since January. Additionally, I have used my private pilot license to assist Search and Rescue, served as second in command to the Sheriff on many high level incidents according to Oregon Emergency Management (OEM) guidelines and ran for Sheriff in 1998.
Educational Background: I attended schools in Madras, Mill City and Metolius from elementary through junior high school. I earned my diploma from the Christian Liberty Academy. I've earned college credits from both Central Oregon Community College in Bend and Chemeketa Community College in Salem. I have completed 1,818 hours of police training through the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). I also have a private pilot license with Multi-engine and Instrument ratings.
Prior Governmental Experience: I serve on the Boards for the Central Oregon Police Chaplaincy and the Airport-Industrial Site Committee. I also participate in the Central Oregon Law Enforcement Board, the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Board and the Jefferson County Domestic Violence Council.
I've been preparing for this for the last 24 years. I am dedicated to learning from the past and making the necessary adjustments to reinforce our already strong foundation and prepare the Sheriff's Office to take on the future.
