The Initiative Process

In order to start an initiative, you must file the appropriate paperwork to begin the initiative process.

You can get the appropriate instruction manual and forms at any County Elections Office or at the Secretary of State’s Office.

State Level Initiatives
For a state initiative petition you need:

• A completed SEL 301 and SEL 310 form
• The text of the initiative
• Form SEL 311 with 25 verified sponsorship signatures

Local Level Initiatives
For a local initiative petition you need:

• A completed SEL 301 and SEL 370 form
• The text of the initiative
